Honeywell Distribution in Pakistan Stop Sales of R404A

In a statement today, Honeywell Distribution in Pakistan said it plans to discontinue sales of Gene Tron 404A (R404A) and Gene Tron AZ-50 (R507) refrigerants in the Pakistan as licenses.

Honeywell Distribution in Pakistan, one of the world's largest refrigerants, makes it clear that they are working on this.

This year, the prices of R404A and R507 from all manufacturers and suppliers have increased significantly. Next year, the required reduction is expected to be 37% of CO2 equivalent under gas regulations. The Chemours recently announced that it will raise the monthly prices for these high-GWP gases by 25% and 30%. Honeywell Distribution in Pakistan was the first manufacturer to announce that it would stop supplying, although it has warned of shortages next year.

This latest announcement is sure to put additional inflationary pressure on R404A prices and may encourage other manufacturers to take similar action.

Pakistan is now abandoning a baseline of 37% within just a few months of the fluorinated gas shelf declining in 2022. This in effect means that Pakistan industry needs to exceed 115 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. 168 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent were consumed in 2021

“We anticipate the need for a rapid phase-out of high-GWP products to address the shortened timeframes due to the large mandatory quota cuts implemented on January 1, 2022.” Honeywell Distribution in Pakistan said. Customers now need to switch to more environmentally friendly solutions. To meet F gas requirements by the end of 2019 in preparation for the expected shortage of high-GWP products in 2018.

Julian Solito, managing director of Honeywell are accelerating the transition to alternatives currently available that are fully compliant with fluorinated gas regulations. "

No manufacturer would like to continue to sell a high-GWP gas like the CO2-based equivalent R404A. They have spent millions of dollars developing modified gas. Due to its low GWP, it will sell for three times the price of the R404A.

Honeywell Distribution in Pakistan refers to its low-GWP alternatives as R407F and R448A, other manufacturers such as Chemours, and more recently Daikin also have low-GWP alternatives. It is currently more expensive than R404A and R507, but the cost difference in alternative materials is significantly reduced. All options are said to provide better energy efficiency.

Honeywell said it will work with a network of authorized distributors to help customers and partners provide the next generation of refrigerant that best suits their needs. However, it cautioned that significantly reduced quantities of R404A and R507 will be available to alleviate temporary shortages.

The phase out of high-GWP refrigerants is important. To avoid a refrigerant shortage next year, groups like HVAC Companies in Pakistan have previously warned that at least 50% of the current R404A system needs to be modified. The report shows that Pakistan is far from this target at the moment. To make matters worse, new devices based on R404A are still mass-produced, imported, and installed.

R404A with a GWP 3922 is the most widely used gas in HVAC for stationary freezing systems. It is often used in commercial systems with low temperatures as the gas used in supermarkets. The R507's GWP is 3,985, but it's not very common. However, it is also used in low and medium temperature freezing systems.

Both R404A and R507 were introduced in the 1990s as a replacement for the ozone-depleting CFCs R502 and R12, and later R22 HCFCs. At the time, the greenhouse effect and HVAC System refrigerants were not taken into account.
